We have already been to the dealership for a test drive, and have multiple brochures hanging around the house. It seems that things may be getting more serious than I had previously thought.
Here is a bit of insight on my dad's current stable. He has two b-body Impala SS's, as well as a Trailblazer SS. He used to own a C4 corvette, and has owned one of the Impalas since it was new. To say he is a fan of Chevy's performance division is a bit of an understatement. He has been waiting for a worthy successor to the Impala for quite a while now.
However, I am a bit hesitant. Currently, he is on a HP binge. "What do you think about supercharging the Trailblazer?" is a question I get asked almost on a daily basis. The trailblazer is currently his DD, so I always tell him he is going to blow up the drivetrain. I can tell what he really wants is a car that can do 0-60 in the low 4's, or even lower. He got spoiled by driving a GTR about a year ago... The SS is a fast car, don't get me wrong, but I'm thinking it just isn't a big enough jump in power coming from the Trailblazer SS in order to justify $45,000.
I told him to check out a used CTS-V at our local Car Max, but he is scared by the luxury tax on repairs. Is this something we should worry about with a CTS-V? You can get great used examples with about 20,000 miles for the same price as a new SS. I have driven the V wagon, and I know that would be more than enough power to keep him content for a very long time!
I think he is mainly in love with the idea of having a true RWD performance sedan successor to the B-body SS. It may just be that his nostalgia will make up for a lack of raw power. He also likes the idea of having a new car, with a warranty, and little to go wrong.
What's Oppo's thoughts on the situation?

Just in time for a 2015 Chevrolet SS. It now offers a Manual Transmission and Magnetic Ride Control.

I think I can speak for all of us when I say the following: Your Dad Rocks. That is all.
Oh yeah, and what he said, Mag ride and Manual, FTW

Honestly, I love the SS and feel that it is a very nice car. We had one on our showroom floor for a while and I loved being able to show off all the features and all the gems of this car.
Little known fact, it has the ability to parallel and perpendicular park itself.
Also, lots of standard features and, to top it off, you will likely have the only one around.

Go for it! This is one of the few naturally aspirated rwd v8 super sedans on the market. I may be biased for chevy, but these cars are worth the money.

I read about that! I'm glad it's confirmed. While magnetic ride sounds great, it will most likely be too costly an option. My dad is more interested in straight line speed anyways. (I am the exact opposite!) I would love to row through the gears in a performance sedan!

I did see those parking features as standard. I'll tell my sisters to only use that option while parking to avoid curbing the wheels :P
That slight exclusivity is a also a nice bonus of the car. Which color did you have in your showroom? We have taken a look at the white, black and gray, but can't decide which looks best.

It is nice to be able to drive his cars for fun every now and then! We do get a lot of questions for having two Impalas from non-gearheads, haha.

If only I had 15 grand to help cover the difference...

We both really like the raw performance that comes from a NA engine, compared to a lot of the turbo competitors. I wonder if the current cars will go down in value once the new model year comes out with the 6 speed and mag ride?

its hard to answer since the SS is a low production car, it might depreciate a bit but not a lot.

We had the red one, actually we've had a total of two and they were both red :)
And as a side note, our manager's told us not to use the parking system just because they don't want us screwing anything up lol. They also never let us drive them. We can drive Camaro's, Tahoes, and Trucks all in excess of 50,000 dollars, but the SS...no touching that one.

Chevy SS might be a good option. For fun, get him to test drive the Tesla Model S P85.
It does 0-60 in about 4.2 seconds and is RWD as well... 1/2 a second faster than the Chevy SS. The 36 month lease cost on the Tesla is $1377/month. But the net cost (which factors in government incentives and fuel savings) is only around $671/month on a 36 month lease. The Chevy SS 36 month lease rate is $1182/month.
The only question is whether 265 miles of range is good enough for him.

Knowing my dad, ours wouldn't be sold for the next ten years.

CTSV and luxury tax? Bullshit. It's an LS motor.
Aaaaand I'd honestly buy a used Pontiac G8 and supercharge or turbocharge that. There are a lot of applications that keep it reliable but make good power.
